"Protocols for academic visits to the Geology Museum"
The following general practices and rules are henceforth to be followed for any academic visits to Geology Museum.
- Requests should be made at least one month prior to the intended date of commencement of academic visit by the visitor, addressed to Head, GSU, to the email id geologymuseum@isical.ac.in
- Requests should include with registration numbers/ field numbers of the specimens to be studied along with approved research proposal to study the requested fossil specimens, and support letters/NOCs from all supervisors/mentors/co-PIs/any researchers related to the proposal, as the case may be.
- Visitors may request to study only published fossil specimens, and any resulting publications must acknowledge "the Geology Museum, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata".
- Approval of requests to work with unpublished fossil specimens are at the discretion of the PI and/or Co-PI of Museum Project and Head GSU. In case such a request is approved, PI and/or Co-PI of Museum Project must be given authorship in any resulting publications.
- If samples are to be taken outside the institute premises for any analyses, then it needs to be done through proper channel and following due process, and the approval for the same is at the discretion of PI and/or Co-PI of Museum Project and Head GSU.
- All visitors will have to be accompanied at all times by a designated person from GSU. Visitors are allowed to work only during working days, and subjected to availability of the assigned accompanying person / host.
- At the end of the academic visit, the visitor needs to submit a detailed report of their academic activities during the tenure of their visit to the PI and/or Co-PI of Museum Project and Head GSU.
Current Notice
"Stock-checking is currently going on at the Geology Museum. Academic visits are temporarily restricted only to studying the following fossil specimens, until completion of the stock-checking: Hyperodapedon huxleyi ; Shringasaurus indicus ; Barapasaurus tagorei."
